What you can do

Build your own weather scene

Use presets as a starting point, then combine individual controls to make the weather lighter, heavier, warmer, colder or more dramatic.

Control the rainChange rain intensity, drop size, length and wind direction for anything from drizzle to a heavy storm.
Create snowfallIncrease snow and particle size for soft falling snow or combine it with wind and fog for a blizzard look.
Add fog and mistAdjust fog strength and height to create low mist, atmospheric haze or a heavily fogged scene.
Change the atmosphereDarken the scene and move the colour temperature towards cool blue or warmer golden tones.
Create a stormCombine heavy rain, darkness, wet glass and lightning for a more dramatic effect.
Compare before & afterUse the Original control to compare the weather edit with the starting photograph.
Pro tip: Weather effects often look more believable when several moderate adjustments are combined instead of pushing one slider to maximum. For example, try medium rain, a little fog, slight darkening and a cool temperature shift.

Choosing a look

Match the weather effect to the photograph

Street scenes

Rain, wet glass and cooler colour tones can work well with roads, pavements, traffic and night lighting.

Landscapes

Fog, mist and soft snow can add depth when the original scene already has open space and distant layers.

Portraits

Keep particles away from the face where possible and use the weather to support the subject rather than hide it.

Dramatic images

Storm presets work best when rain, darkening and lightning are balanced rather than all used at maximum.

Autumn scenes

Falling leaves work especially well with parks, paths, trees and warm-toned outdoor photographs.

Warm sunshine

A gentle warm shift can help golden-hour, holiday and lifestyle images without making skin or skies look unnatural.

Better results

Tips for more believable weather effects

Work with the original light

A dark storm effect will usually look more convincing on an overcast image than on a brightly lit midday photograph.

Use depth

Smaller, softer particles can feel more distant, while larger rain or snow elements appear closer to the camera.

Compare often

Use the original-view control while editing so you can see whether the effect improves the mood without overpowering the photograph.
