JPG and PNG are both common image formats, but they solve different problems. Converting everything to PNG is not automatically an improvement.

What JPG to PNG Conversion Can — and Cannot — Do
After conversion, the new PNG can be saved and handled without using JPG's lossy compression format.
Detail already discarded when the original JPG was compressed cannot be reconstructed simply by changing the file format.
Conversion is useful when an application, website or workflow specifically requires a PNG file.
JPG files contain no transparent pixels, so converting one to PNG does not automatically remove the background.
A PNG version can be useful when you want to continue editing without repeatedly saving in a lossy format.
PNG photographs are frequently much larger than equivalent JPG images.
If your converted PNG is considerably larger than the original JPG, that does not mean the converter has failed. PNG uses a different compression method and is often less space-efficient for photographs.

Will Converting JPG to PNG Remove the Background?
No. PNG supports transparent pixels, but JPG does not. Because the original JPG contains no transparency information, a normal format conversion has no way of knowing which parts should become transparent.

Does JPG to PNG Improve Photo Quality?
Converting a JPG to PNG does not make the original photograph sharper or recover detail that was previously lost. The PNG starts with the pixels contained in the JPG you upload.

Why is my PNG larger than the JPG?
JPG is designed to compress photographs efficiently using lossy compression. PNG uses lossless compression, so photographic PNG files are often considerably larger.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. It prevents the PNG output itself from using JPG compression, but it cannot restore image detail already removed from the JPG.
Will converting to PNG give my image transparency?
No. JPG does not store transparency, so ordinary format conversion cannot determine which pixels should become transparent.
Will the image dimensions stay the same?
Normal images retain their dimensions. This converter may reduce extremely large images to a maximum side of 4096 pixels for more reliable browser processing.
Is PNG always better than JPG?
No. JPG is usually more efficient for ordinary photographs, while PNG can be preferable for lossless editing, graphics, screenshots or workflows requiring PNG.
Should I use PNG for website photographs?
Not necessarily. Large photographic PNG files can slow page loading. JPG or WebP is often more efficient when file size matters.
